Ingredients

  • 1 pound penne rigate
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 6 basil leaves
  • Parmigiano-Reggiano flakes

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil
  2. Add kosher salt and the penne pasta
  3. Cook according to package instructions, about 9 minutes
  4. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering
  5. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant
  6. Add chopped tomatoes, red chili flakes, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper
  7. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes
  8. Stir in chopped basil
  9. Drain the pasta and mix it with the sauce
  10. Garnish with Parmigiano-Reggiano and basil
  11. Serve warm
