Description

A delicious Apple Frangipane Tart featuring a biscuit base with a rich almond-flavored filling and thinly sliced apples. A perfect dessert for special occasions, best served warm with cream or ice cream.

Lighter Version

Use a store-bought tart base to skip the biscuit base preparation and save time. Skip peeling the apples if using softer varieties like Golden Delicious.

Ingredients

  • 175g digestive biscuits
  • 75g butter
  • 200g Bramley apples
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 75g ground almonds
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 50g flaked almonds
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6
  2. Put the digestive biscuits in a resealable freezer bag and crush with a rolling pin into fine crumbs
  3. Melt butter in a pan, mix with biscuit crumbs, and press the mixture evenly over the base and sides of a tart tin
  4. Chill in the fridge while preparing the filling
  5. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in eggs, ground almonds, and almond extract until combined
  6. Peel and thinly slice the apples
  7. Arrange apple slices over the biscuit base
  8. Spread the frangipane filling over the apples, level the surface, and sprinkle with flaked almonds
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden-brown and set
  10. Let the tart cool for 15 minutes before removing from the tin
  11. Serve warm with cream, crème fraiche, or ice cream
